Donna Grant (RM)
In 1991 I stepped on the path to begin fulfilling my dream to becoming a midwife. I began working in Walsgrave Maternity Hospital Coventry where I proceeded to do my midwifery training (thank you to my mentors/friends and colleagues for your support).
In 1999 I went to work at Leicester Royal maternity Hospital and in 2000 secured a post as a community midwife working in Hinckley, where I had the best time. I worked with the support of my dearest friends The Watling Team to advocate holistic care and improve the home birth rate (I will really miss working with you). I worked in the Maples surgery (thank you to all the GPs and staff for your friendship and professional support). During these years I gained such a wealth of experience some good and bad that motivated me to decide to plan this venture with one of my dearest friends Liz who came into my life with the same dream.
Following the loss of my beautiful mother in law Anne Grant and Liz`s dear mum Mary Shannon in 2007 we both felt the time was right to move forward and begin our venture.
I am qualified in aquanatal, parentcraft education and smoking cessation in pregnancy. In June 2009 I sucessfully gained a qualification in obstetric and early pregnancy ultrasound. In 2010 I completed scanning courses to include vaginal scans,3d/4d baby scans and updated regularly in both midwifery and scanning.
2011 and 2012 scan courses completed to improve scanning abilities. Also in 2012 i completed a course for natal hypno birthing.
I have a wonderful family that have always inspired and supported me; my lovely husband Kevin, my 3 wonderful children Victoria, James and Hayli, my 3 precious granddaughters Emily-May, Zayleigh and Keavy who inspire me everyday, my Mum, Dad, sisters Tracy and Suzanne, their families and thank you to all my friends who care and support me (you know who you are).
My most inspiring moments to date are supporting family and friends in their childbirth experiences with the most precious being my granddaughters Zayleigh, Keavy and my 2 nieces Jiaya and Indah.
My passion for midwifery is strong and I feel privileged to be part of the most precious journey of life. I believe this venture will give me the opportunity to use my knowledge and expertise to offer each woman and their family the unrestrained service to suit their individual needs.
Liz Yates (RM,RGN)
I am both a general trained nurse and a qualified midwife. I also hold the parentcraft diploma, and have worked within the National Health Service for 28 years. During this time I have gained much experience, wisdom and self belief, and my passion for being with pregnant women and their families has never decreased.
Now that I have decided to work without the constraints of the National Health Service, it enables me to provide holistic and individual care for pregnant women in an unhurried environment. I truly believe this setting provides a safe atmosphere for women and families thus enabling them to feel supported within a relationship of trust. As I have worked in both the hospital and community setting, I now have the knowledge and experience to deliver excellent care within the boundaries of safety and following all midwifery guidelines and rules.
My husband Robert and I have two super children; Josef and Ciara- who are now both teenagers. They all believe in my midwifery ethos and have supported me all the way in my private venture. I firmly believe that family values make me thrive. Between them they have made my life complete. Sadly in 2007 my dear mother, Mary Shannon passed away. She herself was a nurse and midwife dedicated to caring for people. However her death has given me the inspiration to commence this midwifery practice with my true friend and long term colleague Donna Grant. She in life supported us with the idea of this venture. I also know she would be very proud today.
The rest of my family which includes my father, two brothers and two sisters now all live in Ireland. My family are truly inspirational having achieved the highest standard in their chosen careers following years of hard work and dedication. Thanks to them I have five beautiful nieces and three handsome nephews. Between them all they keep Irish culture alive being so talented in music, song and dance. Due to this family support, belief and understanding I would not be the person I am today.
I want to make the difference for you, so that your pregnancy is empowering and becomes a positive life changing event. Having a child is a wonderful miracle and should be treated as such.
